Independent works inspections and snagging
Independent inspections that help you identify defects before the work is accepted and record what needs attention.
Arrange a works inspectionUnderstand the quality of the work you can see
A contractor may be approaching completion while you are unsure whether the work meets the agreed specification. An independent inspection gives you a reasoned view of the visible work and a record of concerns to raise.
WHBC can attend at agreed stages of repair or refurbishment, or inspect near completion. Planned visits are particularly useful where details will later be concealed, provided access is arranged before the work is covered.
Inspection and follow up at agreed stages
- Agreed requirements: review the relevant specification or scope before inspecting the work.
- Site observations: examine accessible work at planned stages and record visible departures from the agreed requirements.
- Defect reporting: prepare a photographic schedule that identifies the location and nature of items requiring attention.
- Follow up visits: revisit agreed items and report whether the visible defects have been addressed.
What you receive
A dated inspection report or snagging schedule sets out the items observed, with photographs and practical comments. Follow up reporting can update the status of each recorded item, giving you a usable record when discussing completion with the contractor.
Example scenario: checking replacement windows
If an owner commissions replacement windows, an agreed inspection could examine visible perimeter seals and the internal making good. The report could identify incomplete work for the contractor to address, with a return visit arranged to review those items.
Questions about this service
Yes. Inspections can be commissioned as a separate service where you already have a contractor. We will agree what is being checked and the information needed to assess the work.
The service provides visits at agreed stages. It does not provide continuous supervision, and findings relate to the accessible work seen during those visits.
Yes, where suitable access and advance notice are arranged. Tell us about the intended construction sequence so inspection stages can be agreed before details are concealed.
A standalone snagging inspection provides a record of observed defects. Certification under a building contract depends on the appointed role and contract terms, and would need to be expressly included in the appointment.
