Discuss a specialist surveying or project requirement
Tell us what you need to achieve. We will review the proposed appointment and confirm whether WHBC can provide any part of the service before offering a scope.
Describe your specialist requirementEstablish the right appointment before work starts
Some property instructions require a particular professional role or accreditation. A general surveying appointment does not establish that every specialist service is available. This enquiry route allows those requirements to be considered individually.
The subjects below are matters you can raise for an initial discussion, rather than confirmed service appointments. Relevant competence and insurance must be established, together with any required accreditation. Where WHBC cannot accept the requested role, this will be explained so you can make other arrangements.
Requirements to identify in your enquiry
- Domestic EPCs: state whether you need an Energy Performance Certificate or general energy advice. Any EPC instruction requires confirmation of the appropriate current assessor accreditation and availability.
- Construction dutyholder support: distinguish advice supporting a CDM client from appointment as Principal Designer under CDM or Principal Designer under the Building Regulations. Each proposed role requires a separate assessment of its duties and suitability.
- Employer’s Agent appointments: provide the intended contract and required responsibilities so the proposed role can be assessed before any appointment is offered.
- Lease and boundary related instructions: identify whether your enquiry concerns dilapidations or Party Wall matters, and supply the relevant documents and dates for an initial scope discussion.
- Insurance reinstatement valuations: explain the property and the insurer’s stated requirements. This is a specialist valuation enquiry rather than a request for general repair budget allowances.
- Measured surveys and drawings: describe the intended use and required accuracy, including any information needed by a designer or for an application.
- Formal housing hazard assessments: state if a formal HHSRS assessment is required so this can be distinguished from a general housing condition inspection.
What you receive
The initial response will confirm whether the requirement can be considered further and identify information needed to define the appointment. If a service can be offered, a written proposal will set out the role and its limits, together with the fee. An enquiry alone does not appoint WHBC or confirm availability for a specialist service.
Example scenario: clarifying a Principal Designer enquiry
Suppose a client requests a Principal Designer for refurbishment works. The initial discussion would establish whether the request concerns CDM or the Building Regulations, or both. Each role would then need to be assessed separately before WHBC could confirm whether any appointment could be offered.
Questions about this service
No. This page provides an enquiry route for individually assessed requirements. It does not claim that every listed role or accreditation is held. Availability and suitability must be confirmed in writing before an appointment is agreed.
No. Advice to a client is distinct from accepting a Principal Designer role. The Principal Designer roles under CDM and the Building Regulations also have different duties. The required role must be identified and assessed expressly.
A general condition report should not be treated as a substitute for a required EPC, formal HHSRS assessment or specialist valuation. The intended use needs to be clear at enquiry stage so a suitable service can be considered.
Give the property address and explain the outcome you need. Include the relevant instruction or request from your adviser and any deadline. If a formal appointment title has been specified, reproduce it accurately and attach the proposed scope if available.
